Many people spend a considerable amount of time and money searching for effective skin whitening products. Dark patches on the skin caused by sun exposure, pollution, skin problems, over exposure to chemical cosmetics or stress can look unsightly. Finding a way to make skin appear bright and flawless can be surprisingly difficult. Despite the fact that there are numerous cosmetic products on the market, such as the skin whiteners described here, some of them prove to be ineffectual or even bad for your skin. There is good news however in the form of natural skin whitening compounds which have no harmful effects and create a safe way to brighten the skin. You can use many home made remedies for a lightening effect on your skin, however you must remember that no product can lighten your skin more than a couple of tones so don’t expect miracles.
Lemon juice has a long heritage as a skin lightener. It has been used for generations as a skin bleach which also exfoliates the epidermis. Using pure lemon juice on the skin is likely to cause irritation because of its acidic properties so dilute it with one part water to one part juice. Simply apply the solution to the skin with cotton wool and leave it to soak for 15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse with warm water and apply moisturizing cream to counter the drying effects of the acidic lemon. Results should become noticeable after around a month of use although you should use the solution two or three times weekly to see the best results. Don’t be tempted to use it every day however, this could irritate your skin and cause further damage. A word of caution – when using lemon juice solution on your face, stay out of the sun until it has been completely removed. UV light can react with chemicals in the lemon to cause skin damage.
Yogurt, like all milk products, contains natural enzymes that are known for their skin lightening properties. Make a face mask from yogurt mixed with honey (which is good for moisturizing and also has antibacterial properties). One part honey mixed with one part yogurt should be applied to the face and body for 15 minutes before rinsing away. Make sure the yogurt you use is plain and unsweetened so it is not too sticky. You can try an alternative of using aloe or avocado with the yogurt instead of honey as both are moisturizing substances. You could also try adding lemon juice to plain yogurt along with some oatmeal.
As well as lemons, some other fruits are known for their skin whitening properties. Oranges can be used in face masks to bleach the skin effectively. Try combining turmeric and orange juice which should be applied in paste form to the skin at bedtime. Powdered orange peel added to yogurt used as a face mask a couple of times a week may lighten dark patches. Papaya skin can be rubbed onto the face and then left to dry out before washing off on a daily basis. Mashed papaya mixed with lemon juice can also be applied to the skin and left for an half and hour before washing off. If this is done once a week, an improvement in skin tone should soon be noticeable.
Turmeric has properties which prevents melanin build up, allows skin tone to even out. Its antioxidant and antiseptic qualities also mean that it is excellent for skin health. Making a paste from milk cream and turmeric, applying it to the face and washing it off when dry is an excellent brightening remedy. A mask can also be created from turmeric powder, gram flour and lemon juice which should be left to dry for about 25 minutes.
Aloe vera has a cooling effect and is known to help with skin tissue regeneration. To use aloe vera on your skin, cut the leaf’s outer layer and squeeze out the jelly inside. Apply it directly to the skin and leave in place for half an hour before washing. Try this twice every day for a fortnight and see the difference in your skin health. Aloe vera gel can also be purchased online or in stores if you do not have ready access to fresh aloe vera leaves.
Cucumber on the eyes has long been a remedy for dark eye circles but it can be also used on other areas to firm them up and create a supple skin tone that will look brighter. This can be done by simply applying sliced cucumber to the affected areas or by making a face mask by adding honey to grated cucumber and using it twice daily. Juicing a cucumber and mixing it with lemon juice makes a liquid solution which can be applied to the face and left until it dries before washing it off.
Oatmeal is a natural exfoliant, removing the dead layers of skin and allowing for healthy skin to regenerate, improving skin color and tone. Add oatmeal to tomato juice and apply to the skin. Scrub off after 20 minutes, making sure the oatmeal is able to scrub off any dead cells.
Although these tips are excellent for reducing dark patches on the skin, it is important to prevent any further skin damage occurring. The best thing to do is to stay out of the sun as much as possible and to use a high factor suncream when exposed to UV rays.
